What access does my land need for a delivery truck carrying the home?

NationwideReviewed October 2026

Plan a wide, firm, clear route from the road to the pad. Codes do not set a delivery-truck standard, but fire apparatus access rules give a useful benchmark for big trucks: New Braunfels, Texas requires fire lanes at least 20 feet wide, 13 feet 6 inches of vertical clearance, an inside turning radius of at least 25 feet, and an all-weather surface built to carry heavy loads. Walk the route for low limbs, power and phone lines, gates, culverts, sharp turns and slopes. Soft clay or a fresh pad can trap a loaded flatbed after rain, so gravel the approach or schedule for dry weather. Web Soil Survey's road ratings flag soils weak under traffic. Confirm the hauler's needs.
