How can I find the records for an existing well on property I am buying?

TexasReviewed October 2026

Look up the state well report. For wells drilled in 2003 or later, search the Texas Water Development Board's Submitted Drillers Reports database by address on its Groundwater Data Viewer, or by owner, driller, county or date. For wells drilled before 2003, scanned paper reports are in the TCEQ Water Well Report Viewer. It helps to know the approximate drilling year, the owner's name at the time, the well depth and the driller. A well report shows depth, casing, the formations encountered and often the tested yield, which helps you judge whether the well can supply a home. Your groundwater conservation district may also hold registration records.
