How do I get homeowners insurance for a manufactured or factory-built home in Texas?

TexasReviewed October 2026

Shop for a homeowners policy as you would for any home, and tell insurers exactly how the home was built and installed so they can say whether and how they will cover it. The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) suggests working with an independent agent who represents several companies. Ask how much coverage you need, whether the policy pays replacement cost or actual cash value, and which discounts apply. TDI notes that flood coverage is separate and that Gulf Coast residents may need separate windstorm coverage. If two companies turn you down, TDI says the Texas FAIR Plan Association may be an option. Coverage availability for nontraditional homes varies by insurer. TDI's consumer help line is 800-252-3439.

Check your local rule. This varies by state, county or city. Your permitting office has the final word; the official lookup pages below show you who that is.
