What protections do Texans have when buying or leasing solar panels?

TexasReviewed October 2026

TDLR now regulates residential solar sales and leases. Since September 1, 2025, contracts must include required disclosures, name the licensed electrical contractor doing the installation with a license number, and confirm who will get permits and utility interconnection approval. Buyers can cancel without penalty by written notice by the fifth business day after signing. Starting September 1, 2026, solar retailers and salespeople must register with TDLR. The PUC advises asking about financing terms, liens, warranties, who repairs storm damage, and whether the home suits solar before signing, because sales and leases are binding contracts.
