How can I check that an electrician is licensed in Texas?

TexasReviewed October 2026

Search the person's or company's name or license number in TDLR's online license database, or call TDLR Customer Service at 800-803-9202 (in Texas) or 512-463-6599. Electrical contractors must have a master electrician of record and show their TECL license number on their vehicles in lettering at least 2 inches tall. A residential wireman is limited to dwellings up to four stories, so match the license type to the job. You can report unlicensed electrical work to your local authority or to TDLR's Enforcement Division. A license check takes a minute and protects your permit, your inspection, and your insurance.
